Street Trees / Besides being beautiful to look at, urban trees are said to:

  • Help improve mental wellbeing

  • Views of trees and nature can help with physical health and recovery

  • help control harmful particulates - contributing to cleaner air

  • Provide homes for wildlife and help to increase urban biodiversity

  • Provide shade, temperature regulation and help reduce the urban heat island effect

  • Can be used to slow traffic and reduce road rage

  • Help with urban drainage and flood reduction

  • Raise perception of value of a neighbourhood - potential house price increases

BRONWYN PHILLIPS
CHAIR

I moved into a maisonette on Inwood Crescent in 2009. I work full time as an architect, and have recently been looking for ways to make a positive difference to sustainability and biodiversity in my neighbourhood. I was particularly moved to take action when we lost three trees to Dutch Elm Disease.
